Iowa City – More than Hawkeyes and Frat Parties
You’ve probably been to Iowa City before – wild tailgating, college visits, barhopping, the Coralville Mall – all very dignified pursuits. But have you sampled the fare? The freshly brewed coffee? The local shopping? The brunch?!?! As the decidedly-not sports fanatics that we are, we’ve gone beyond the Big Ten sports extravaganza experience to tell you about the places well worth stopping for a bite (or making a whole trip out of)! So forget about those beloved Hawkeyes for a moment and think GOURMET IOWA. You’ll be delighted you did.

McGregor, Iowa: Honey, High-Jinks, and Hunger
This day trip was focused on good eats and hiking around the scenic and historic river town of McGregor – and we got plenty of both! The little town of McGregor, IA is nestled between the Mississippi River and the towering bluffs of northeast Iowa. The downtown streets are lined with 19th century buildings, antique and specialty shops and restaurants all within easy walking distance.

Put a Little Spring Green in your Step
Spring Green is a small but far from sleepy town in Wisconsin. In fact, we found that the food, shopping and culture were so abundant that we couldn’t fit in everything that we wanted to do in just one day. Less than an hour and a half from Dubuque, and a beautiful drive, it is the perfect day trip or weekend getaway.

Good Ole Potosi
This summer you won’t want to miss the short, scenic road trip to Potosi, WI. Head north on 151 from Dubuque then catch 61 North at Dickeyville. Just past Dickeyville, the winding road takes you along small creeks, flanked by beautiful foliage. Follow the sign left towards Potosi on 133 and the road drops you into a magical valley and the charming little river town of Potosi. It won’t take you long to recognize you are in Wisconsin – the smell of beer brewing and cheese curds frying will have you leaping from your vehicle.
